Most Americans have no clue as to the amount of money that flows into our political system (both parties are guilty!) 60 Minutes did a story several years ago about Republican Members of Congress being "required" to spend a pre-determined amount on time on provided telephones "dialing for dollars" every week.
I can’t remember who it was (I always think it was Terry Smith) that brought up an increase in partisanship was due to Newt’s contract with America where all R’s had to go home each weekend. While this was supposed to create a stronger connection to their districts it weakened the collectiveness of both parties to serve.
However, I no longer want an elected official I feel I could “drink a beer with”. I would like an elected official who has plans and ideas instead of different ways to yell “boo!” to scare people into voting for them.
In the war gaming view of historical what if's, adding Congressional Terms Limits from the start in the Constitution would be fascinating to see how much that would change the present. Or would something else have been twisted to make the outcome close to the same?

Excellent commentary. Thank you!
